January 14 Virtual Kickoff Event
Come Say Hello!
We invite you to join us for a virtual kickoff event to celebrate the launch of this collaborative initiative toward mental health equity in California. Come for an interactive session to learn about this project, meet our team, and provide input on the types of equity-related supports you are interested in receiving over the course of the project.
This event will be hosted on Friday, January 14, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. PT. Learn how our no-cost technical assistance can support your work!
Help define the future of California’s Cultural Competence Plans!
Ethnic Services Managers, community-based organizations, and Behavioral Health Directors are invited to participate in Listening Sessions about county CCP community planning, implementation, and evaluation efforts. We would like to hear your thoughts as champions of mental health equity, cultural brokers, and experts of your local community.
Listening sessions are a great way to hear about system challenges and innovative solutions from community perspectives. Your feedback as a key stakeholder will help us plan programming, facilitate continued statewide discussions around behavioral health equity, and inform updated state CCP guidance (see DHCS Information Notices 10-02 and 10-17).
Please join us on one of the following dates:
Tuesday, January 18, 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. PT (waiting room opens at 12:00 p.m.)
Friday, January 21, 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. PT (waiting room opens at 12:00 p.m.)

A Bit About the Project
California’s diversity is one of its greatest strengths. But health disparities and inequities mean that many of us do not receive the same level of care—or have the same health outcomes—as other Californians.
The Community Mental Health Equity Project (CMHEP) was created to reduce these disparities and expand Californians’ access to culturally and linguistically responsive behavioral health services.
Through CMHEP.org, county behavioral health departments and community-based organizations will be able to access no-cost training opportunities, technical assistance, and resources related to:
- Fostering partnerships between counties and community organizations
- Growing the number of ethnic and community-based Medi-Cal providers
- Expanding community-defined effective and cultural healing practices
- Creating trauma-informed services and systems change
- Practicing cultural humility in policy and practice
- Enhancing counties’ use of data to evaluate community needs and outcomes
- Integrating the National CLAS Standards and Cultural Competence Plan Requirements
- Supporting counties through Cultural Competence Plan tools and training
- Building a more diverse workforce
- Countering the effects of structural racism
- And much more
